Igomenico

Antonino Gallo, aka Igomenico, is a young artist from Sicily, arrived in Milan with a suitcase full of ideas. His creations range from collage, the paintings, the sculptures - assemblage that arise from a profound meditation on the royal and filter the artistic experience of the twentieth century in an attempt to experiment, with different techniques, a perception that is inspired by the underground culture.

The exhibition “Coltivazioni Igomeniche” is the mise - en - scène of his last works, sculptures designed to be exposed in a botanical environment that expresses the character of artistic achievement as a loving cultivation, care growth - evolution of ideas that reflected in the three-dimensional sculptural approach to the reality that is the source of the works themselves.

The exhibition

In noisy and worldly Milan's “Buenos Aires” opens Broggi Street leading to silent Locus Amoenus, Fiori 2 , a shop - exhibition - theater - curtain of Art. Rosalba Piccinni, owner - artist – musician, opens his personal botany Wunderkammer to his guest, the underground artist Igomenico 3 .

The idea of this partnership stems from Andrea Colombo's brain – thought, the director of Spazioporpora 4 Gallery, who had previously hosted artist works 5 , but, here, he fits them into a deeper dimension suiving the project of Igomenico, decided to set up the garden of his mind's creations.

Works belonging to Coltivazioni Igomeniche are the result of a profound meditation on color visions coming from cerebral “Igo”, a dreamer who fantasizes from the reality that surrounds him, which is around and in his mind, a heritage, and a background who lives profoundly.

The images come together in his art, detach, merge, create and assemble themselves: so comics, graphic novels, sculpture, trimming, brush and abstraction are combined in a contemporary rug that want to grow a creature as multi - form, multi - ethnic, multi - technique, multi - visual, multi - space.

The starting point is the same reality as observation and knowledge that combines the artistic and visual experience than technical - formal one to reassemble into a single space - work a set of details that will assemble the fragments of the artist's soul in a new mini - self, new Igomenico all round.

The artist allows thoughts to born with cerebral associations that derive from his personal filter and cultivates them taking care of those little ramifications coming from his mind yet, but they are themselves reworkings of his culture as “cultivations”.

The technique is exactly this “cultivation”: the project is set on collage, which collects sketches with clear lines of Burton's mold, and is divided into compositions that play in space interacting with the audience, capturing his attention thanks to a precise graphical, theatrical and advertising layout.

Those same elements are fixed on canvas and cropping, the face, the comic are embedded in the color associations of Igomenico that uses the brush firmly exploiting the memory of the Masters: Cubism, Futurism and Abstraction are cultivated on the canvas, a memory which is fixed into backgrounds net, a spatial brain that evokes images of boxes, drawers that contain flashes of thought.

But those faces and those colors need a new - the third dimension that allows the project to materialize into something more palpable, a form more similar to the reality that it originates. So those sketches - collage become three-dimensional structures, sculptures - assemblage where those faces become identity , colors form the plot of the body, the compositional elements come together in a structure that will flower cultivation. The works now independent, so the sheet of the drawing canvas as the painting, take character of its own.

The crops are placed in an alive setting and play hide and seek with the viewer: the space becomes a new background for the work which undergoes a re-arrangement in botany for which the support is a vase and the creation establishes and leans right as a living plant, grown from the mind of the artist, curated in his training with a mix of combinatorial freedom and affection.

The whole genius of Igomenico is summed up in a very specific logo: the artist portrays himself as the Sicilian who travels to the north with his luggage in his hands showing his back: it is the point of view by those who see it go.

His art is the result of the combination of the elements contained in the same suitcase, a boƮte-en-valise of Duchamp's memory.
